About Us

What is Urban Sketchers Cape Cod?

Urban Sketchers Cape Cod is a community of artists who love drawing the world around them—on location, not from photos or memory. Whether at a café, a beach, a harbor, a park, or a street corner, we capture the places we live, work, and visit.

The global Urban Sketchers movement began in 2007, founded by Seattle journalist Gabi Campanario. Our Cape Cod group follows the same mission: to share the joy of on-location sketching and connect with sketchers locally and worldwide. We are currently in the process of joining the international Urban Sketchers organization.

What We Do

We meet regularly for sketch outings, typically starting at 10 am, sketching for a few hours, then gathering to share work and take a group photo.  Outings occur every other Saturday, with occasional extra “pop-up” gatherings announced online.

After outings, members post sketches to our Facebook or Flickr groups, where we share, support, and learn from one another.

Who Can Join?

Everyone is welcome—beginners, hobbyists, and pros alike. There are no fees, though some outings may take place at venues with entry costs (like museums or gardens). Most events are free.

Follow the Urban Sketchers Manifesto:

1.) We draw on location, indoors or out, capturing what we see from direct observation.

2.) Our drawings tell the story of our surroundings, the places we live, and where we travel.

3.) Our drawings are a record of time and place.

4.) We are truthful to the scenes we witness.

5.) We use any kind of media and cherish our individual styles.

6.) We support each other and draw together.

7.) We share our drawings online.

8.) We show the world, one drawing at a time.

Bring whatever tools you like—pen, pencil, watercolor, or just paper. Many of us bring stools, but standing or sitting on a ledge works just as well.

Come sketch with us and help show the world, one drawing at a time!
